About us
We are located near the small ranching community of Burns in southeast Oregon. Burns is not far from Malheur Lake, one of the largest freshwater marshes in the western U.S.  Malheur Lake is also home to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge one of the original "Teddy Roosevelt Refuges".  Every spring nearly a million waterfowl and countless shorebirds and other water birds migrate through this area on their annual trek to the arctic to breed.  There is some fantastic upland bird and waterfowl hunting found locally.

We have access to hundreds of acres of fields, meadows, ponds and sloughs for training under a variety of real life situations for hunting.  We have been involved with different aspects of training and raising dogs for the past 25 years. This includes Guide Dogs for the Blind, obedience,  showmanship, hunting, hunt tests and family pets.

All of our gun dog puppies and adults are raised in a small family farm atmosphere.  We expose them early to horses, goats, chickens, other livestock, small children, strange noises, gunfire, water, gamebirds and other distractions to help them with their social skills and confidence.

Rick is a professional wildlife biologist with education, training and professional experience in wetland ecology & management, aquatic ecology, waterfowl management, fishery management, aquatic and terrestrial eco-toxicology. Rick is the Head Coach for football at the local junior high school and plays lacrosse for a men's club team and teaches the game to local youth.

Colleen is a "home educator".  She has college education in speech pathology and special education.  Our five children are homeschooled. Colleen runs the day-to-day operations on our small family farm. Our children take part in the family farm by doing their daily chores.  We also provide foster care to infants, toddlers and preschoolers, some with severe medical needs, when their parents run into trouble with authorities for drug related issues, abuse and/or neglect.
