Puppy policy
*We are not a large kennel and may have only one or two litters per year. We do not breed unlesswe can locate a stud with the right qualities.  He must be free of genetic disorders (cleared hips and/or elbows, eyes),  have acceptable physical conformation, great temperament, as well as having  been shown to have excellent retrieving and hunting abilities.

         * Our Labs are cleared on hips, elbows and eyes, have great temperaments  and show no traits that are deemed inappropriate for Labrador retrievers.   Our Labs are trained and hunted extensively for waterfowl and upland gamebirds.  We may also enter our Labs in various hunt tests during the summer if time permits.

         * We select your puppy based on interviews with you on specifically what  you are looking for in your pup (e.g., hunt test, hunter/companion, companion,). We spend considerable time with our pups and evaluate each  one to determine their temperament and aptitude. This includes human interaction,  Early Neurological Stimulation, introducing them to dead and live pigeons,  the Monks of New Skete Puppy Aptitude Test, walks on the property, etc.

         * All puppies will be sold on a AKC
Limited  Registration.  They  will not be fully registered until they are determined to be free from  inheritable orthopedic and eye diseases or other conditions. Exceptions to this policy may be made on an individual basis.  After proper documentation (certificates of examination) are provided to Northwinds Farm and Kennel, we will approve AKC Full  Registration. Beginning with litters whelped in 2002, we will only recognize hip evaluations  that are conducted through the PennHip program. We will no longer recognize  OFA hip evaluations.

         *
We request that pups that  are to compete in hunt tests, field trials, showmanship, agility or other   events include Northwinds or Doublecluck in the registered name. Owners of dogs that receive titles (MH, MHR, QAA, CH, CD, etc) and have "Northwinds" or "Doublecluck" in the registered name  will receive a cash award.

         * YOU are responsible for the health of the puppy. Poor nutrition, lack of proper care, over feeding, lack of exercise, injuries, exposure to toxins or pathogens can lead to poor physical health. Northwinds Farm and Kennel is not responsible for your irresponsiblity.

         * A non-refundable deposits of$250.00 US is required to reserve a puppy.  If no puppies of the requested temperament, aptitude, sex  or color are available the money will then be refunded.  If a pup is shipped (airline or by car) an additional shipping fee will be charged  to cover costs.

*All puppies come with a five day written health and 30 month hip/elbow and eye guarantee (original owner).

*Puppies are ready to go to their new homes between their 7th and 10th week of age.  A later placement age gives us more opportunity to  evaluate their readiness and individual temperaments. It also provides the time needed to get in at least 2 sets ofvaccinations and de-worming.
